The company's tone is set by Owner Thomas C. Wargel, who launched Black Prairie Ag Services, Inc., in 2002. Black Prairie Ag now serves clients throughout the United States, specializing in the management and sale of Central and Southern Illinois farmland.

Wargel was raised on a Southern Illinois grain and livestock farm, and since 1990 has devoted his career exclusively to farm management and farm real estate brokerage. Wargel has productively managed farmland for hundreds of clients, evaluated and negotiated numerous leases, consulted on a variety of special projects, and helped guide the successful sale of thousands of acres of farmland.
Black Prairie Ag's owner holds a B.S. in Agriculture from the University of Illinois. He became a licensed real estate broker in 2002, having served as a licensed real estate salesman since 1991. He has maintained his status as an Accredited Farm Manager, recognized by the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, since receiving the designation in 1995.
